Dear Friends,

UPDATE...

January 30, 2008 -- Filmmakers are invited to contact our colleagues, the We the Peoples film festival, based in London, which was inspired by Stories from the Field. Its third season, to be held in November-December 2008, will screen films on UN Millennium Development Goals issues or that promote human rights, as 2008 marks the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Visit www.wethepeoples.org.uk for more information.

Owing to unforeseen circumstances, the April 2008 edition of Stories from the
Field, the United Nations Documentary Film Festival has been cancelled and the project placed on hiatus until further notice. We apologize for any inconvenience and wish to make the following assurances at this time:

  • PUBLIC FILMMAKERS WHO HAVE APPLIED ONLINE AND MAILED THEIR FILMS: Withoutabox will refund your submission fees. The judging copies of your film will remain on file. We hope to return in 2009, in which case we will invite you to re-enter your film in the competition.

  • PUBLIC FILMMAKERS WHO HAVE APPLIED ONLINE BUT HAVE NOT YET MAILED THEIR FILMS: Withoutabox will refund your submission fees. Please do not mail your film until you hear from us that the festival has resumed, at which time you will be invited to re-enter your film in the competition.

  • SPONSORS, FRIENDS, VOLUNTEERS: You will hear from us individually. Thank you for your interest and support over the past four years. You have made our labor of love a real joy. We hope to work with you all again soon.

Please watch this site for information about a future festival.

Warmest regards,

Linda Lopez and Corinna Sager
